·         Asia did not bode well for the 1st of September.  China’s official PMI slipped to 49.7 in August, signaling more evidence of contraction in the manufacturing sector. This contributed to a 3.8% decline in the Nikkei; Shanghai closed 1.3% lower and the Hang Seng was down 2.2%.  Europe is continuing the trend:  mid-day finds the DAX off 2.2%; FTSE, -2.0% and the CAC 40, -1.9%.  Futures suggest Wall Street will do little for 401-Ks today:  DOW, 325 points in the red; the NAS, -94 and the S&P 500, 40 ½ points lower. Happy Tuesday.  Outside markets:  Gold, +$9.50; $ Index, off ¼ point at 95.59; energies are mostly weaker with Oct crude $1.09/barrel cheaper at $48.09

·         T-storm Weather: A large area of upper-level high pressure keeps U.S. corn and soybeans warmer than normal into early next week.  Mainly dry weather accompanies warmth until a cool front passes within Saturday-Monday; best rain chances in western corn / soybean areas, as well as the HRW wheat belt.  Rain would be most ideal further to the east given that portions of the eastern and southern Corn Belt account for the primary reason that around 30% of U.S. soybean (and corn) production was drier than normal over the last 30 days.  A seasonably cooler and drier pattern follows next week
